Walking daily for this amount of time can prevent your bones from weakening
As people age, the risk of bone weakness increases.
In particular, the risk of osteoporosis, a condition that weakens bones, significantly rises in middle age.
But did you know that by making walking for a certain amount of time a daily habit, you can keep your bones strong at any age?
Yes, it’s possible.
Do you know the benefits of walking for just 15 minutes every day?
A recent study revealed that walking for a specific time daily helps in strengthening bones.
Published in the journal Osteoporosis International, the study involved over 24,000 elderly individuals, collecting data on their walking habits.
These individuals were divided into four groups:
– The first group consisted of people who didn’t walk daily.
– The second group walked for 30 minutes or less each day.
– The third group walked for 30 to 60 minutes daily.
– The fourth group walked for more than an hour each day.
The health of these individuals was tracked for 37 months, during which 4,586 people were diagnosed with osteoporosis.
Researchers discovered that, on average, 19 out of 100 people who walked for 30 minutes or less daily were diagnosed with osteoporosis.
In the group that walked for 30 to 60 minutes daily, 15 out of 100 people, on average, were diagnosed with the condition.
Among those who walked for more than an hour each day, 10 out of 100 people were diagnosed with osteoporosis.
According to the researchers, adopting a habit of walking for an hour or more each day can help keep bones strong.
They also found that people with a genetic predisposition to bone weakness could also protect themselves from this painful condition by making walking a daily habit.
The study concluded that daily walking helps in strengthening bones.
