UN Fact-Finding Team to Investigate Abuses During Protests in Bangladesh

A United Nations fact-finding team will investigate the abuses that occurred during protests in Bangladesh in July.

According to Bangladeshi media, the interim government has announced that the UN team will visit Bangladesh next week. The team will investigate human rights violations that took place during the July protests.

Bangladesh’s interim leader, Mohammad Yunus, discussed strategies with Volker Turk, head of the UN Human Rights Commission, over the phone to identify those responsible for the recent violence in Bangladesh.

It is noted that over 300 people were killed during the violent protests in July in Bangladesh.
