U.S. President Joe Biden has awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award to Pakistani-American poet and writer Raees Warasi.
Raees Warasi, who is the President of the Urdu Center in New York, received the medal from Jessica Gonzalez, a member of the New York Assembly, on behalf of President Biden.
Warasi has been dedicated to the global promotion of the Urdu language for the past 34 years. He organized the first Urdu conference at the United Nations to advocate for the inclusion of Urdu among the official UN languages, where the importance of Urdu was acknowledged by the leaders of Pakistan and India, as well as the UN Secretary-General.
He has also been honored with the “Pride of Pakistan” award by Pakistan’s Overseas Ministry.
