Third suspected case of monkeypox reported at Karachi Airport in one day

A third suspected case of monkeypox has been reported at Karachi Airport in one day.  

According to airport sources, a passenger arriving in Karachi from Jeddah on flight PK 732 exhibited symptoms of monkeypox.

Sources say that earlier this morning, a passenger arriving on a foreign airline flight also showed signs of monkeypox. That passenger was from Rahim Yar Khan.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has approved the first vaccine for monkeypox.

Sources further stated that after identifying monkeypox symptoms in the passenger, the Saudi airline’s plane was disinfected, and the health immigration counter and conveyor belt were also sprayed and disinfected.

Additionally, a female passenger on a flight from Dubai to Karachi exhibited monkeypox symptoms.

It was reported that all three passengers have been transferred to the Sindh government’s infectious diseases hospital. They will be kept in the hospital’s isolation ward until their test results are received.

It is worth mentioning that the WHO has approved the first vaccine for monkeypox.

According to news agencies, the WHO has approved the first monkeypox vaccine, MVA-BN. This vaccine can be administered to individuals 18 years and older in two doses, four weeks apart.

The agency also mentioned that the approved vaccine is 76% effective after one dose and 82% effective after two doses.

It should be noted that the WHO has declared monkeypox a public health emergency.

According to WHO, monkeypox has spread to 121 countries, and 500 people have died from it this year. The mortality rate for high-risk groups and those with weak immune systems can be as high as 10%.
