Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa governments abandon immediate relief for electricity bills

The governments of Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have declared that they will not be able to provide immediate relief for electricity bills.

According to Sindh government spokesperson Murtaza Wahab and KP’s Finance Advisor Muzammil Aslam, the provincial governments are unable to offer immediate relief on electricity bills.

In a statement on Geo News’ program *Naya Pakistan*, Sindh’s Advisor and Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab mentioned that providing relief for two months in Sindh would cost 10 billion rupees. If Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provides relief for two months, it would cost 8 billion rupees, and the Balochistan government would incur a cost of 1 billion rupees.

He added that the government does not believe in token gestures and empty promises. If the PPP’s advice had been followed and affordable plants had been installed using Sindh’s resources, electricity would be cheaper today.

KP’s Finance Advisor Muzammil Aslam stated that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Sindh produce cheaper electricity, while expensive electricity is generated in Punjab. Although the Punjab government provided relief for two months, the cost of electricity is expected to rise again afterward.

Both officials have called on the federal government to provide permanent relief instead of temporary measures.
