Several Major Roads in Lahore in Deteriorated Condition, Potholes Causing Accidents

Despite the announcements by the Punjab government, several major roads in Lahore have deteriorated, with potholes filled with dirty water causing an increase in diseases and accidents for the citizens.

After assuming the office of Chief Minister, Maryam Nawaz had announced that no pothole would be seen on any road in Punjab within a month. However, this declaration has remained unfulfilled. Even in Hamza Shahbaz’s constituency, several roads are riddled with potholes filled with dirty water.

On Empress Road, leading towards the railway station, potholes have been present for months in front of the Radio Pakistan building and other locations. On the nearby road, in front of one of the gates leading to Police Lines and Qila Gujjar Singh, potholes are also present, filled with dirty water.

Police officers, when asked about the diseases spreading due to the stagnant water in the potholes near the Police Lines, refused to speak on camera but mentioned that several of their colleagues have fallen ill, with some contracting malaria. Frequent accidents also occur due to the poor condition of the roads.

Another important road in Lahore, which has Aitchison College on one side and Mayo Garden on the other, is also riddled with potholes. The road becomes extremely dark at night, yet no one is paying attention.

Regarding this, Chief Corporation Officer Ali Abbas stated that the geo-tagging and survey of the potholes on the roads have been completed, and repair work will begin soon.
