Risk of Transmission Line Burst; Over 50% Reduction in Gas Output from Local Wells

The national gas transmission system is still at risk, prompting a reduction of over 50% in gas output from local wells to protect the system.

In a significant development, Sui Northern has reduced gas output from local wells from 800 MMCF (Million Cubic Feet) to less than 400 MMCFD to keep the national gas transmission system safe from line pack pressure. The line pack pressure has risen to 5.230 billion cubic feet (BCF).

However, the transmission pipeline system is still under threat, with a high risk of a pipeline burst. If this occurs, the entire country could face a gas shortage.

A senior official from the Ministry of Energy confirmed to The News that Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) has notified the Petroleum Division about the 50% reduction in gas output from local wells to save the system, although line pack levels are not being reduced.

Exploration and production companies have protested this reduction, stating that it damages well gas pressure and requires millions of dollars to restore.

SNGPL stated that the power sector is consistently using less RLNG, with current consumption at approximately 164 MMCF. This situation has led to a high system pack across the entire transmission network.
