Rising Water Levels in River Chenab Due to India Releasing Water, Residents Advised to Evacuate

The water level in River Chenab is rising due to India releasing water.

According to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), the water level at Qadirabad Barrage on the River Chenab is rapidly increasing, with expectations that it could reach 250,000 cusecs.

The PDMA also mentioned that 40,000 to 55,000 cusecs of water is expected in River Ravi at the points of Jassar and Shahdara. Residents in these areas have been advised to move to safer locations.

Meanwhile, heavy rainfall has been recorded in Rajanpur and the mountainous regions of Koh-e-Sulaiman.

The Flood Control Room reported that due to the rainfall, flash floods have occurred in the seasonal streams, leading to a rise in water levels. The Kaha Sultan stream is carrying a flow of 19,606 cusecs, while the Chhachhar stream is carrying 11,450 cusecs.

Furthermore, the Kalabagh area is witnessing a flow of 2,340 cusecs, while a medium-level flood is being recorded at the Kot Mithan point on the River Indus due to the continuous rise in water levels.
