Punjab Paid for Electricity Relief, Not Taken for Free, Maryam Responds to Mustafa Kamal

Chief Minister of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz, responded to criticism from MQM Pakistan leader Mustafa Kamal regarding the reduction of electricity prices in Punjab, stating, “Dear Mustafa Bhai, Punjab did not receive this relief for free; we paid for it.”

Earlier, Mustafa Kamal had expressed that electricity prices should be uniform across the country. He argued that instead of Nawaz Sharif, the Prime Minister should have held a press conference to address the entire nation. He added that the decision to reduce electricity prices only in Punjab would increase the sense of deprivation in other regions, and this decision is unacceptable.

In response, Maryam Nawaz clarified, “Dear Mustafa Bhai, Punjab paid for this relief with 45 billion rupees from its own budget for the benefit of its people. We would be happy if you could discuss this with the Sindh government so that they can also provide this relief to their people.”

Responding to this, Mustafa Kamal stated, “Thank you, Maryam Bibi, for your valuable advice. If the Sindh government’s treatment had been better, there would have been no need for your party’s unconditional support. In my press conference, I requested the Prime Minister, not the Punjab government, to consider us as equal citizens of Pakistan and give us the right to live accordingly.”

Mustafa Kamal further added that the Prime Minister had promised to make life easier for the people of Sindh, and they are only waiting for the fulfillment of those promises.
