Major Setback for Canadian Prime Minister, Increased Challenges for Government

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s government faces increased challenges following the announcement by a key allied party to leave the governing coalition.

According to a news agency, the New Democratic Party (NDP), a smaller party in Justin Trudeau’s coalition, has announced its withdrawal from the government alliance.

NDP leader Jagmeet Singh announced the separation through a video message, accusing Justin Trudeau of weakening the Liberals and stating that he is ending his 2022 deal with the government because Trudeau has failed to stop the Conservatives.

In his video message, Singh mentioned that pre-election polls ahead of the 2025 elections indicate that the Conservatives will easily win.

Jagmeet Singh criticized the Liberals, stating that they have become too weak to protect people’s rights, have turned self-centered, and serve corporate interests. He expressed that the Liberals can neither bring change nor restore hope.

He added that the NDP had supported Justin Trudeau in 2022 on the condition that social welfare spending would be increased, but the polls suggest that Trudeau has lost the trust of voters.

Despite the NDP’s announcement, Justin Trudeau is not immediately expected to resign or call for new elections.

According to the report, after the NDP’s exit from the coalition, Trudeau’s government will need to find a new ally in the House of Commons to pass the budget and win a vote of confidence.
