Illegal SIM cards issued under Karachi citizens’ names revealed
The police have uncovered a large-scale issuance of illegal SIM cards under the names of Karachi citizens.
According to the police, the SIM cards issued under citizens’ names are sold to foreign nationals at the Chaman border. The culprits would take biometric thumb impressions from unsuspecting citizens and then issue SIM cards from various companies.
The police revealed that these illegally issued SIM cards are used by criminal gangs. In a recent operation, Rizvia police arrested three individuals, including two brothers, in connection with the case.
In a video statement, one of the arrested suspects admitted that a foreign national named Kamran Afghani used to buy each SIM for PKR 1,200. The suspect further confessed to having supplied 400 SIM cards to Kamran Afghani. He also explained that after taking the biometric data from the citizens, they would delay issuing the SIM cards, falsely telling the citizens that their biometric data had not been processed.
