Founder of Social Media Platform Telegram Arrested in France

Pavel Durov, the founder and CEO of the international messaging platform Telegram, has been arrested in France.

According to French media, Pavel Durov arrived in Paris from Azerbaijan on his private jet, where he was detained by authorities.

The report states that the 39-year-old Pavel Durov holds dual citizenship in both Russia and France. He is suspected of non-cooperation with law enforcement, drug trafficking, criminal activities involving minors, and fraud.

It is expected that charges will be formally filed against the Telegram CEO today.

Meanwhile, Israeli media suggests that Pavel Durov could also face charges of terrorism, money laundering, and receiving stolen goods.

It is worth noting that Pavel Durov was born in Russia. However, after refusing to comply with demands to shut down his social media platform, he left Russia in 2014.

Telegram is particularly popular in Russia and Ukraine.
