Bangladesh: Interim government led by Dr. Muhammad Yunus takes oath

An interim government in Bangladesh, headed by Nobel laureate Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, has been sworn in.

The oath-taking ceremony took place at the Presidential Palace in Bangladesh, where Dr. Yunus was sworn in by President Mohammad Shahabuddin.

According to reports, student leaders Naheed Islam and Asif Mahmood are also part of the 17-member interim government.

It is worth noting that Dr. Muhammad Yunus was appointed head of Bangladesh’s interim government after Sheikh Hasina Wajid resigned and the parliament was dissolved.

Emotional scenes were witnessed on Thursday as Dr. Muhammad Yunus returned to the country from Paris, and his voice choked with emotion during a media interaction.

Dr. Yunus said that the students saved the country, and now the focus is on protecting freedom and working for peace and stability. The eyes of the young people standing beside him were also filled with tears.

It is important to note that Professor Muhammad Yunus was nominated for the leadership of the interim government by the leaders of the student movement.

Meanwhile, the decision on the permanent residence of the resigned Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who fled to India, remains unresolved.

Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar discussed the situation in Bangladesh with British Foreign Minister David Lammy. India has stated that Sheikh Hasina will make her own decision about her future.
