In a tragic incident in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, India, a woman died of a heart attack after receiving a false WhatsApp call about her daughter’s arrest and a ransom demand for her release.

According to Indian media, the incident occurred when an unknown person called Malti Verma via WhatsApp, falsely claiming that her daughter had been arrested on charges of running a prostitution ring.

The caller, pretending to be a police officer, told Malti Verma that if she wanted to save her daughter from the charges, she needed to transfer INR 100,000 to a given account. The caller also threatened to leak a video of her daughter if she did not comply.

According to Indian media, Malti Verma’s son, Dipanshu, said that his mother was a teacher at a government school. She became very anxious after receiving the call, but Dipanshu reassured her that he had spoken to his sister, who was safe at her college. He also told her that the call was fake and a fraud.

Despite her son’s reassurances, Malti remained deeply distressed. When she returned home from school, she suffered a heart attack and passed away.
