An investigative report by Turkish media has revealed that the pagers involved in the recent explosions in Lebanon, which caused widespread destruction, were manufactured by a Taiwanese company.
According to the report, pager devices are not typically prone to explosions due to their standard batteries. Pagers use advanced systems to send messages, but they can be hacked, which requires exceptional skills.
Pagers operate on radio frequencies that can be controlled, and while they are a reliable and effective communication tool, they have several vulnerabilities and can be easily monitored.
The report also indicated that pagers were used by the Lebanese group Hezbollah and health workers, including doctors, for messaging.
The explosions occurred just seconds after a new message signal was sent to the pagers. Many users, when bringing the pager close to their eyes to read the message, sustained eye injuries from the explosions.
Security experts suggest that explosive materials were likely installed in the pagers before they reached Lebanon, raising concerns that the devices were tampered with before reaching Hezbollah.
American news agencies reported that the pager explosions are surprising to security experts, as several key individuals were reportedly protected despite the explosions.
Lebanon has also launched an investigation to determine whether the pagers were sent directly from Taiwan or imported from a third country. Various types of pagers are also used by Israeli security forces.
It is noted that in the pager explosions that occurred yesterday in Lebanon, including the son of a Lebanese minister, 11 people were killed and over 4,000 were injured.
Iranian Ambassador Mojtaba Amani was also injured in the explosions. U.S. newspapers have claimed that Amani lost one eye and his other eye was severely affected, although Iranian authorities have denied these reports.
The American newspaper also stated that hundreds of people’s eyes were severely affected by the pager explosions.
