Negligence of Border Health Services, Monkeypox Patient Travels from Islamabad to Peshawar

Due to the negligence of Border Health Services, a case of monkeypox has traveled from Islamabad to Peshawar.

Officials reported that a person infected with monkeypox arrived at Islamabad Airport from a Gulf country on September 7. Due to lapses in Border Health Services, the patient left the airport and traveled to Peshawar, where he stayed at a hotel and consulted a skin specialist.

The patient was tested at Khyber Medical University, where the monkeypox result came back positive, prompting experts and authorities to express serious concerns over the performance of Border Health Services staff.

The Technical Working Group highlighted that surveillance at all points of entry, including airports except Peshawar, is extremely inadequate.

This is the fifth reported case of the monkeypox virus in the country, with most cases involving travelers coming from Gulf states.
