Standing Committee Opposes SFIC Decision, Orders Revival of Steel Mills

The National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Industry and Production has directed the revival of Pakistan Steel Mills, opposing the SFIC’s decision to permanently close it.

The committee, chaired by Syed Hafeezuddin, expressed concerns over attempts by certain groups to seize the steel mills’ land. They strongly opposed the SFIC’s decision and established a sub-committee led by MNA Naz Baloch to focus on the mills’ revival.

The sub-committee will include Abdul Hakim Baloch, Muhammad Arshad Sahi, and Dr. Mukesh Kumhar Malani. It will work on administrative and financial proposals, address employees’ issues, and develop a plan to operationalize the steel mills.

The committee aims to ensure the mills’ revival and its contribution to the national economy. They also plan to visit the mills and form a sub-committee to address various issues.

The chairman emphasized the need for the mills to be operational, highlighting concerns about the land being eyed for large-scale construction and the destruction of Karachi’s green belt.
