A migrant boat sank in Senegal, resulting in the deaths of 26 people, while several others remain missing.

According to a report by a British broadcasting agency, the boat departed from the city of Mbour, located 80 kilometers from Senegal’s capital, with over 100 passengers on board, but sank just 4 kilometers into its journey.

The boat, typically used for fishing, was attempting to carry migrants to Spain’s Canary Islands. Most passengers were young people seeking to enter Spain illegally in search of a better future.

Officials report that of the 100 people on board, 26 have died, and 4 have been rescued. A rescue operation is ongoing to locate the missing individuals.
